Patterns and Paint

We talked about patterns- about how sometimes just repeating something over and over can make a very pretty picture! We found some patterns on our clothes ad then tried to make our own.

It seems simple, but this sort of activity actually requires the children to think and sort out things before they have a picture that looks convincing to others; and then they think of the color combinations and the mediums... Phew, thats a lot of work for one great hour :)

by Jayant, age 4- Candy wrappers and geometric shapes: great work from the youngest in class

by Sanjana, age 6- couldn't this pass for some fabric? :)

by Zainab, age 10 - Monster Eyes :) lovely work by a tween!

A tribute to Georgia O' Keefe

Georgia O' Keeffe was an American artist with a very distinct style of painting, mainly remembered for her flowers (poppies especially) which were always large as though magnified and seen up close.

The Busy Bees were shown some of her flower paintings and we worked on drawing and painting on the same lines. They thought BIG and drew large flowers, like O'Keefe's famous paintings and then they used watercolors :)
A fitting tribute to a fantastic painter :)

Check back soon on the sketches as they come up :)

Pirates and Princesses at High Sea :)

Another take on the black paper and white markers :)
A new batch of little children went to work with their boats with pirates, princesses and sea-life :) As you can see even the little use of color, by way of oil pastels, gives such a bright touch to these beautiful pictures
The black paper did not come out too well in pictures, believe me- the actual art is much more prettier!!
